Funeral Suits are 3 young men, 2 from Dublin and 1 from Limerick. Since the release of their E.P. ‘Eye Spy’ in May 2009, Funeral Suits have pushed onwards and upwards, growing to be bolder and more confident both in writing and live shows as the months have passed.
Michael, Brian and Greg spend most of their time in a disused office space making sounds that eventually become songs. Greg is the rock from which their music jumps, creating rhythms which pave paths for Michael and Brian to run, skip, fall and sprint briskly on. Both provide lead vocals, swapping instruments on different tracks. Their songs are often times landscaped with high volume infectious distorted guitar lines and/or driving synth with pounding drums. Ambitious to perform a collection of songs in a variety of ways has resulted in a treasure chest of instruments being used and abused, with mood creation at the forefront of their happy little brains.
Other releases include, a single, Now We’re Moving Now We’re Free, in August ‘09 and a demo tape called ‘Oh Dear’ from 2008. ‘Black Lemonade’, the first track on Oh Dear found a cosy home on Steve Lamacq’s (BBC Radio 1) best tracks of ’08 list. Currently demoing songs with an album in their sights, Funeral Suits have recently gone into the studio to record with Stephen Street.
In the past year, the band have played 3 dates with Franz Ferdinand on the Irish leg of their World tour as well as supporting Passion Pit, The Breeders, Manchester Orchestra and Local Natives and also racking up a host of well-received headliners in between. One of special note was a show to mark their last offering (Now We’re Moving, Now We’re Free) in Whelan’s main venue last August where a lot of newer material was performed for a rapturous audience, filling our three hero's hearts with much confidence. They were also the first band to play the Electric Picnic 2008 and possibly the last act to leave its Stradbally Estate grounds.
Funeral Suits have set their stall out to be organic in the way they develop as a band. Besides believing in themselves, they believe word of mouth to be as helpful as any internetiwebical gob, that having fun and making friends along the way is essential to that organic growth, and that ‘if people like us then we are honoured, delighted and inspired. We know that not everyone will like our music but that’s part of the fun’
These are Funeral Suits. Take them and break them XO XO XO
me and the boys have a podcast strictly for underground artists. when you submit, we'll play your song on our show for all of our listeners, and give our opinions and ideas on it. we'll read your bio for you so the world can get to know you a bit and we'll even shout out if you got a tour coming up or an album or ep dropping soon and let people know where to find you or where they can watch you perform. it's a critique show by some goofy dudes that will give you exposure and promote your projects. hit me back if you are interested.
You boys must be psychic. Although your powers of perception are a little off as I am loving as oppose to liking your sound. Those beats are just killer. Excellent music!!
