Welcome back to another edition of “This Week in Casting,” the column that gives you the rundown of who’s attached to the hottest upcoming projects in Hollywood. From big time players to fresh-faced rookies, we’ve got the week in review for you right here. This week, we’ve got casting news about Will Ferrell, Selena Gomez, Russell Brand, Emma Stone, and many more. Get all the details below!
.
BIG NAMES
.
Emma Stone to star in Cameron Crowe’s next movie

Getty ImagesThe movie: The untitled film is a love story that shares a tone with previous Crowe movies like Jerry Maguire and Almost Famous, and Stone will play the female lead when filming begins next spring. A male lead is being eyed, but no one has been cast just yet.
Other projects: Stone has been busy, and her next movie should be Gangster Squad, which was set to open in September but was bumped to early 2013 due to a scene in the film being similar to the recent Aurora shooting.
.
Selena Gomez joins cast of Parental Guidance Suggested

Getty ImagesThe movie: The rock-and-roll themed indie feature stars Nat Wolff as Ric, a 16-year-old who goes on a rock-themed odyssey with his crush, Nina (Gomez). Austin Stowell (“Secret Life of American Teenager”) will play Gomez’s overprotective boyfriend.
Other projects: She’s got the sexy new comedy Spring Breakers coming soon with James Franco and Vanessa Hudgens.
.
Russell Brand playing the title role in Cupid

Getty ImagesThe movie: Brand will produce and star in this romantic comedy as a cynical cupid who is forced to create an ideal romance.
Other projects: He’s starring alongside Rock of Ages co-star Julianne Hough in Diablo Cody’s (Juno) untitled directorial debut that should be out next year.
.
Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Kyle Chandler starring in The Spectacular Now

Getty ImagesThe movie: The movie stars Miles Teller as a high school senior who tries to save his love interest (Brie Larson) from being a social outcast. Winstead and Chandler, along with fellow recent additions Bob Odenkirk and Andre Royo, weren’t mentioned in specific roles when they were cast, but I’m guessing they’ll play teachers at the school.
Other projects: Chandler is starring opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street, while Winstead appears alongside Jessica Alba, Amy Poehler, Adam Scott, Jane Lynch, and more in a comedy called A.C.O.D. next year.
.
Will Ferrell will cameo in The Internship

Getty ImagesThe movie: It’s a Wedding Crashers reunion, as Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson play two guys who get laid off from their jobs and have to take a crummy internship at a tech company and compete with people half their age. Ferrell has agreed to appear in a cameo as Wilson’s brother-in-law, a guy who sells home electronics (like Vaughn in Old School) and makes inappropriate comments about his hot customers.
Other projects: Farrell obviously has the sequel to Anchorman coming up next year, but we’ll see him in theaters in The Campaign way before that.
.
RISING STARS
.
Nelsan Ellis starring in The Butler

Getty ImagesThe movie: It seems like every major Hollywood star is coming out to be a part of this movie, and Ellis has locked down the coveted role of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in the project. The story follows a White House butler who served under eight different presidents.
Where you might have seen him: He’s best known for playing Lafayette on HBO’s “True Blood,” and he’s also appeared in The Help and The Soloist.
.
Miles Teller and Analeigh Tipton set to star in Two Night Stand

Getty ImagesThe movie: Two unlikely lovers are trapped together in an apartment when a blizzard forces them to extend their one night stand for one more night.
Where you might have seen them: Teller co-starred in the recent Footloose remake, while Tipton first appeared on “America’s Next Top Model” and moved on to Crazy, Stupid, Love and the upcoming vampire movie Warm Bodies.
.
Josh Gad joins cast of The Internship

Getty ImagesThe movie: It’s the same Vince Vaughn/Owen Wilson flick that Ferrell will cameo in. Gad plays “Headphones,” a tech worker at the guys’ firm who always wears headphones but never actually listens to music through them.
Where you might have seen him: He starred on the Broadway incarnation of “The Book of Mormon” and has appeared in movies like Love and Other Drugs and Marmaduke.
.
Lynn Cohen joins cast of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

Getty ImagesThe movie: It may seem strange to put an older actress in the “rising stars” column, but she’ll undoubtedly experience a spike in popularity after appearing in the massively ancitipated sequel to The Hunger Games.
Where you might have seen her: She’s been in movies like Munich and Eagle Eye, along with the Sex in the City films.
